The Occasion in Honor of Leonid Kovalchuk Was Held
The famous scientist, efficient manager, talented surgeon, seasoned mentor Professor Leonid Yakymovych Kovalchuk, who had run Ternopil State Medical University for 17 years, died a year ago. The staff of TSMU had an opportunity to pay respect to the former rector of the university on October 1 at a Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Holy Mother of God and appreciate everything he did for the university once again.
The ceremony of a commemorative plaque opening dedicated to Leonid Kovalchuk took place that day. It was situated at the administrative building of TSMU.
A commemorative plaque dedicated to Leonid Kovalchuk was opened by the rector of Ternopil State Medical University Mykhailo Korda and the First Vice-Rector for Science and Education Oleksandr Kovalchuk. Then the priests of various denominations held a memorial service and blessed this memorial.
On behalf of the family Leonid Yakymovych’s son the First Vice-Rector Professor Oleksandr Kovalchuk expressed gratitude for honoring his father.
The bust for Leonid Kovalchuk was opened on October 1 at Ternopil University Hospital. Leonid Yakymovych performed a lot of surgeries there. This clinic had become a “University Hospital” through his enterprise. This project of cooperation of a university and a hospital had been implemented in Ukraine for the first time.
