The XIII International Research and Training Conference “Topical Issues of Medical Education Quality” Was Held in TSMU

The XIII International Research and Training Conference “Topical Issues of Medical Education Quality” was held on May 12-13 at Chervona Kalyna, the Educational and Recreational Centre of I.Horbachevsky Ternopil State Medical University. During this conference a number of important significant resolutions on higher medical education of our country were adopted.

10 representatives of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, 29 first vice-rectors and vice-rectors for Science and Education, vice-rectors for International Affairs, 10 Vice-Rector for Research, 25 Heads of Curriculum & Instruction Department and deans, representatives of the Board of Young Scientists of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the Student Council of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the Research and Methodology Commission on Health and Social Security of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, delegations from Poland and Georgia, more than 300 participants from universities of Ukraine took part in the conference.

During this event Vice-Rectors for Research have discussed topical issues of medical science development for the first time within the last thirteen years. The Board of Students Self-Government and the Board of Young Scientists of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine took part in the discussions and held their section sessions.

The conference was chaired by the Head of the Education Sector of the Office of Personnel Administration and Education of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine Yurii Piatnytskyi and the Rector of TSMU Professor Mykhailo Korda.

The Head of the Sector of Science and Innovations of the Administration of the Reform Centres Coordination of the Ministry of Health Oleksandr Volosovets, the Director of the Centre of Professional Competence Testing of Experts with University Degree in Medicine and Pharmacy of the Ministry of Health Iryna Bulakh, Deputy Director of the Centre of Professional Competence Testing of Experts with University Degree in Medicine and Pharmacy of the Ministry of Health Maryna Mruha, the Director of Central Methodology Office in Higher Medical Education of the Ministry of Health Iryna Melnyk, the Director of International Programmes of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine Yurii Fysun, the Head of the Department of Healthcare of Ternopil Regional State Administration Volodymyr Bohaichuk, the Vice-Rector for Science and Education of TSMU Professor Arkadii Shulhai, the Head of the Research and Methodology Commission on Development of Standards of Higher Education in Healthcare of the Ministry of Education and Science Ihor Mysula were the members of the Presidium as well.

 On behalf of the Acting Minister of Health Viktor Shafranskyi and Deputy Minister of Health the Head of the Sector Roman Vasylyshyn, the Head of the Education Sector of the Office of Personnel Administration and Education of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine Yurii Piatnytskyi greeted the participants of the National Research and Training Conference. He emphasized the importance of this conference, adoption the standards of higher education in all specialties of Healthcare.

The Head of the Department of Healthcare of Ternopil Regional State Administration Volodymyr Bohaichuk greeted the conference participants and wished a fruitful work. He underlined the effective cooperation of doctors and researchers of TSMU in Ternopil region.

Yurii Piatnytskyi opened the plenary section on Current issues of administration of staff training in public health. One of the topical issues is the changes in the arrangement of medical personnel training.

The Vice-Rector for Science and Education of P.L. Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education Oleksandr Tolstanov in his speech pointed out the reforms in medical postgraduate education.

The Head of the Sector of Science and Innovations of the Administration of the Reform Centres Coordination of the Ministry of Health Oleksandr Volosovets reported on “Innovative dimension of medical science development” and emphasized that due to the adoption of new laws in Ukraine the science and education work mutually.

The other participants also reported on other standards and innovations of higher education in different specialties of healthcare. All presentations of the standards were followed by lively discussions and proposals.

In a sectional meeting “Standards of higher medical (pharmaceutical) education, ensuring the quality and control. The results of the implementation of internal control of education quality in higher medical educational institutions”, which took place on May 13, the representatives of foreign delegations from Wroclaw Medical University and Tbilisi State Medical University took part.

Current issues of higher medical education were discussed in two sessions: “Organizational legal, personnel, educational and material and technical supply of the educational process” and “The role of young scientists in the reform of national science and implementation of the Law of Ukraine “On Higher Education ” in the professionals’ training in Healthcare.

There were also workshops for vice-rectors (deans) of International Affairs, workshops for vice-rectors for Research and meeting of the Board of Students Self-Government of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

In total, more than 60 papers and reports on various aspects of the Law of Ukraine “On education” in higher medical and pharmaceutical education in Ukraine were presented and discussed.

At the end of the conference the Head of the Education Sector of the Office of Personnel Administration and Education of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine Yurii Piatnytskyi noted that the participants managed to do a lot during the two days of the conference: to approve the Decree regulating the implementation of the regulations of the Law of Ukraine “On Higher Education” and the Resolution on a new list of field expertise. He appreciated the collegial work of the participants and expressed gratitude to the Rector of TSMU and its staff for perfect facilities at the research and training conference.

The results of the conference were announced by the Vice-Rector for Science and Education of TSMU Professor Arkadii Shulhai.

The Rector of I.Horbachevsky Ternopil State Medical University Professor Mykhailo Korda was grateful the conference participants for their persistent and fruitful work during two days. The head of the university invited everyone to visit Ternopil during the next few years.
