TNMU Students from Nigeria Organized a Medical Quiz
Students from more than 50 countries study at Ternopil National Medical University. They have not only excellent opportunities for education, but also for self-realization. On the 27th of November 2020, the Nigeria Students Union of TNMU under the leadership of Adeyemi David Ayooluwa, a 3rd year medical student, organized the first ever All-African Quiz.
This competition was aimed at engaging students academically and most importantly bringing together all the African students within Ternopil State National Medical University.
The competition involved African students’ representatives from: Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Congo, Zimbabwe, Kenya, who were randomly grouped into 4 different teams (A, B, C, D). The winning team gets a cash price of 10,000 UAH.
The questions were drawn out from major medical fields with varieties of clinicals, pictures, medical abbreviations and medical terminologies questions.
Panelists were carefully selected from various unions to oversee that the competition was free and fair: Adeyemi David Ayooluwa (Director of Academics NSU), Damaris Williams (Director of Academics Sierra Leone), Monga Lukanda Gloria (President Congolese Student Union), Tanaka Cliff Nhokwara (President Zimbabwe Student Union), Maduka Chibuike (NSU Academic Committee Member).
The competition ended with Team C emerging the winner of the competition. The team which was led by Orish Fortune Chiemeli (NIG) and other team members: Dennis Nkansah Appiah (Ghana), Kallon Maria (Sierra Leone), and Omwenga Linda Bochere (Kenya). Team B came the 2nd while Team A and Team D had a tie taking the 3rd position in the competition.
The event was jointly sponsored by the NSU and senior friends of the union. The organizers of the event appreciate the support and assistance of the Dean of the International Students Faculty Professor Petro Selskyi and the Deputy Director of the Center for Educational Work and Cultural Development Associate Professor Olena Pokryshko.
Due to the present anti-pandemic regulations, there were restrictions as to how many people that can be in the hall; Hence only the participants were allowed in the hall and the event was streamed live on the union’s social media handles (Instagram & Facebook). The event ended successfully with much anticipation for a next one.
