TNMU Professor Completed Training at the Largest Clinic in Europe
Head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology No. 2 Department of Ternopil National Medical University, Professor Svitlana Heryak, on September 2-27, 2024, has been training at Vienna Medical University based on Vienna General Hospital (Allgemeines Krankenhaus der Stadt Wien (AKH), at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Vienna Medical University (Head of the Department Prof. Herbert Kiss, MD, MBA) in the clinical departments of obstetric pathology and maternal-fetal pathology and the Gynecological Endocrinology and Reproductive Medicine Department of the AKH University Clinic for four weeks.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Vienna Medical University is a leading Center of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Medicine, based on the largest clinic in Europe and the Central Hospital of Vienna. In Newsweek’s global ranking of the best clinics in 2023, it took 30th place.
The main goal of the internship was to get acquainted with modern guidelines and the latest technologies of scientific research, diagnosis, and treatment of obstetric and gynecological patients. Professor Svitlana Heryak shared her experience and achievements and expanded scientific cooperation with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Vienna Medical University.
During her internship, Professor Svitlana Heryak took an active part in the XXIX European Congress of Perinatal Medicine on September 11-13, 2024, where she presented a report on the results of her scientific research “Obstetrics and Perinatal Risks in Women – Temporarily Displaced Persons Who Have Experienced Stress as a Result of Military Aggression in Ukraine.”
The clinical internship at the Medical University of Vienna contributes to increasing competence and practical skills in examining patients, teaching methods, and applying modern approaches in advanced medicine to solving clinical situations. The experience gained will be implemented at the Obstetrics and Gynecology No. 2 Department and in the Ternopil Regional Clinical Perinatal Center “Mother and Child” and obstetric and gynecological hospitals of Ternopil region.
Clinical training also occurred in the Maternal and Fetal Risks Department, the Pregnancy Pathology Department, the Maternity Hospital, and the surgical wing.
In the Pregnancy Pathology Department, together with Professor Alex Farr, the condition of the mother and fetus was monitored, and if necessary, the prescribed therapy was adjusted. In the Maternal and Fetal Risks Department, Svitlana Heryak improved her skills in examining pregnant women and diagnosing perinatal diseases using modern equipment.
While working in the Gynecological Endocrinology and Reproductive Medicine Department, the possibilities of increasing the effectiveness of diagnosis and treatment of infertility in women at high risk and with severe extragenital pathology were discussed.
