TNMU Representatives Participated in a Seminar on Forming a National Consensus on Open Science

On October 28, 2024, the second seminar on forming a national consensus on open science took place. The event was organized by the project consortium “Open Science for Ukrainian Higher Education System (Open4UA)” (Erasmus+ CBHE Strand 3), of which Ternopil National Medical University is a part.

During the event, the Open4UA team presented the results of an analysis of national legislation for its alignment with European standards in open science and research evaluation.

Project coordinator Associate Professor Oleksandr Berezko opened the seminar by focusing on key legislative aspects of implementing open science practices in Ukraine.

Bohdan Karnaukh (Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University) discussed soft law documents, major “trapdoors,” and forming Ukrainian open science legislation.

Nataliia Filatova-Bilous’s report centered on the legislative implementation of open access to scientific and technical information.

Andrii Yevkov elaborated on the conflicts between copyright issues and open science principles and the adaptation of Ukrainian legislation.

Finally, Heorhii Vasyliiev detailed the institutional tools for advancing open science and improving research assessment, emphasizing the importance of understanding the diversity of scientific contributions and the infrastructure of open science.

The discussions were engaging and productive.
